History

American University of Peace Studies Inc. had its beginnings in Ojai California in 1990 with a group made up of Americans including the former Mayor of Ojai California and Dr. Eton Simon, inspired by Dr. Robert Muller, Former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General. His immeasurable contributions to shaping the UN as a caring organization, to defining policy that has impacted people across the world in many areas of their lives, and to modeling how one’s thoughts/vision/action promotes the values we find in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Dr Muller is credited for laying the foundation for a “World Core Curriculum” which led to his receiving the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education in 1989. Essentially, through his “World Core Curriculum,” he helped inspire the growing Global Education movement becoming known as ‘the father of global education’ thereby influencing innumerable people globally even today. More than 30 Robert Muller schools were founded throughout the world.

Dr. Muller was also the co-founder and first Chancellor of the University for Peace created by the UN based in Costa Rica.

It was his dream that inspired a group of his close associates to establish the first University of Peace and Understanding in Ojai California and thereafter the American University of Peace Studies Inc. in Guyana, which was established in 2002 as an international higher learning research institution, developing new ways of thinking and creating knowledge that is important to Human well-being.

For over 20 years AUOPS has been pioneering behavioral science in Guyana and the regional, and a catalyst for quantum leaps in training Employees, leaders, and organizations to reach higher levels of Human Development Growth.
